“With Heavy Steps I Tread Unknown”: a poem

In shadows cast by doubtful eyes, A heart yearns to freely rise, Amidst a world so vast and wide, Unsupportive parents by my side.

Oh, tender souls who brought me forth, Why must my truth provoke your wrath? Within my being, colors bloom, Yet, your acceptance, shrouded gloom.

With heavy steps, I tread unknown, The path I choose, uniquely sown, But in your gaze, I find no light, Just judgment’s touch, a solemn night.

I dreamt of love, unconditional, Of open arms, and hearts resolute, Yet, your doubts bind me, ever tight, Suppressing stars that long to ignite.

My queerness, not a flaw to bear, Nor whispered secret, hidden affair, It’s but a prism, shining bright, A kaleidoscope of sacred light.

Dear parents, hear this heartfelt plea, Unclasp your hands and set me free, Embrace the truth that dwells within, A love unburdened, free from sin.

For I am whole, in all my hues, Unfolding dreams, I won’t refuse, My worth, unmeasured, pure and deep, Let not your fear our bond unsweep.

In every moment, please believe, Your child’s love will never deceive, A tapestry, we’ll weave with pride, Together, our love shall override.

So, parents dear, unchain your fears, Embrace the joy that love endears, In unity, our spirits thrive, A testament that love’s alive.

For I am queer, and still your child, A love untamed, fierce and wild, And as we dance upon life’s stage, Let love be our enduring gauge.
