The Power of Change; a spoken word inspired by the article, “Stay Black and Breathe” by Alexis Pauline Gumbs

In the hands of the many, tendered and twined, Rests the power of change, our collective mind. We stand at the dawn, where futures are penned, In the chapters of progress, where hearts transcend.

The coins of our will, they shimmer and gleam, Every cent a promise, every nickel a dream. In our palms they dance, in our fingers they twine, The currency of change, the passage of time.

Yet amidst this dance, we must not forget, The rhythm of life, in each breath we let. In the inhale, a question, in the exhale, release, The shared breath of humanity, our common peace.

We breathe in the dawn, we breathe out the dusk, In the rhythm of life, in the strength of us. For each breath we share is a silent vow, The pledge of the present, the power of now.

For change is a river, vast and wide, But breath is the current in which we ride. In every inhalation, in every sigh, Lies the strength of a society, under the same sky.

Together we hold change, in hearts, in hands, Together we breathe, in countless lands. In the dance of life, in the rhythm we weave, We find the strength to change, the courage to believe.
